A Group Residency and Exhibition

Humans are communal and private individuals, simultaneously. We share food, conversation, identities, while holding private moments, lives, and thoughts. The Alleys & Intersections group residency and exhibition was created to explore this dichotomy in practice and as a focus of artistic creative expression. Alleys & Intersections was conceived by Michael Owen and Max Ferency, two Baltimore-based artists and friends who explore these relational themes in their individual artistic practices.

On October 19th, 2017, Mia Hernandez (digital media), Italo Duarte De Dea (mural), Gerilyn Lackey (mixed media), and Jae Jin (song) gathered at HOME Artist Residency to live and produce work culminating in a public group show on October 22, 2017. Those artist were selected by an esteemed panel of jurors, actively involved in Baltimore's arts scene: Maria Aldana (Education Director, Creative Alliance) Rafael Alvarez (writer, Baltimore Sun, The Wire) Troy Burton (Executive Director, Eubie Blake Center). Below are selected photos from the event and a version of the song written by the resident musician.

If you would like to spark such conversations and thought among your friends, family, colleagues or community members using these works, please contact me so we can work out the details. I'll bring the music and speakers and you provide the space and people.

I am an experienced facilitator of intergroup dialogues and conflict resolution on issues of race, gender, class, etc and so I am ready and willing create a space for discussion that will be both safe and challenging. Even if you live too far away for me to travel to you, please still contact me and we discuss ways for you to initiate conversations with the group of listeners.
